Sure, we all miss summer when it’s gone, but a new school year brings all sorts of excitement, including new learning opportunities, the chance to see friends again (or make new ones), and, of course, back-to-school shopping! It’s time to start picking out backpacks, notebooks, and pencils and get ready for a new year of learning, adventure, and fun!

Here at The Highlands, we’re proud to be zoned to New Caney ISD, a 5A district designated as a Texas District of Innovation and one of the fastest-growing districts in the state. We’re excited about so many New Caney ISD educational programs and other opportunities, and we know that our youngest residents and their families are excited about them, too!

That’s why the opening of our first on-site school, Highlands Elementary, is such an important milestone. It will provide quality education in a safe, walkable, community-first environment, ensuring that students and families can thrive both in and out of the classroom. Highlands Elementary School Opening Next Month!
New Caney ISD back to school 2025 brings some exciting developments—perhaps the most exciting news is the new onsite Highlands Elementary that’s opening this August for the 2025-2026 school year! With a STEM-focused curriculum, the newest elementary school in New Caney ISD is a candidate for the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB-PYP). That’s a bit of a mouthful; what does it all mean? It means that Highlands Elementary offers a student-centered approach to teaching that focuses on learning both inside and outside the classroom, developing well-rounded learners who are prepared for success both academically and beyond!
New Highlands Middle School Coming Soon!
New Caney ISD back to school 2025 is an exciting time for families in The Highlands. Students at Highlands Elementary will enjoy the ability to walk or bike to their classes from their homes right in the community. What happens once they reach grades six through eight? Not to worry! Construction is already underway on Highlands Middle School, an onsite school focused on strong academics, flexible spaces for hands-on learning, Career and Technical Education (CTE) labs, a Special Education suite, and top-tier extracurricular areas including sports facilities, a fine arts wing, and a dance room. All of that and more will be waiting for students from The Highlands when Highlands Middle School opens its doors in the fall of 2027!
Porter High School Upgrades!
Not to be left out, Porter High School is slated to undergo $18.5 million in upgrades, including improvements to the school’s fine arts, CTE, and athletics programs. Among the new additions will be a covered multipurpose practice area as well as improved baseball, softball, football, and soccer fields. Serving more than 2,100 students, Porter High School is already known for its rigorous academic programs, enriching extracurricular activities, and supportive guidance, so that its graduates are “prepared to meet real-world challenges as resourceful and productive members of the global community.”
